GENERAL ANESTHESIA

If your child is receiving an advanced treatment or does not respond to nitrous oxide, Dr. Brian Wah may recommend a general anesthesia during your child’s visit. By receiving general anesthesia, your child will be able to comfortably and safely sleep through their treatments. Our team at Nashville Pediatric Dentistry has teamed up with Nashville Office Based Anesthesia and they are highly trained in administering general anesthesia and will constantly monitor your child to ensure that their treatment goes smoothly. If you have questions about your child being treated with general anesthesia in Franklin, Tennessee, we invite you to call us at 615-905-8920 and schedule an appointment with our pediatric dentist to discuss your concerns.

Dr. Matt Yezerksi and Katie Bradford of Nashville Office Based Anesthesia are wonderful with the children and allow the children to be treated in our office. This reduces wait time and your child gets treated in a kid-friendly environment! More information about our anesthesiologists can be found at http://nashvilleoba.com

General anesthesia is a stronger sedative that will put your child to sleep. Typically, this type of sedation is administered to help make it safer for our pediatric dentist to perform more complex and potentially painful treatments. When your child receives general anesthesia, they will be unconscious, which means they will not be able to feel any pain or move around during a procedure. This can make any treatment easier and safer for our doctor to perform, and more relaxing and comfortable for your child.

General anesthesia may be used for a variety of reasons. Before any anesthesia is administered, however, our dentist will discuss these reasons with a parent or legal guardian to ensure that consent is provided. Some of the most common reasons for anesthetic include when your child:

  • Cannot relax enough for treatment to be properly and safely performed

  • Requires advanced treatments, such as oral surgery or root canals, that may be intolerable without sedation

  • Plans to receive multiple treatments in one visit

  • Has a disability that limits their ability to be properly treated in the dental chair

If your child requires general anesthesia, our pediatric dentist and team are trained to administer this sedative and will monitor your child throughout their treatment. In some cases, we may bring in a professional anesthesiologist, depending on your child’s circumstances. If you have questions about your child receiving general anesthesia as part of their dental care, please call or visit us today.
